BSc(Arch) (Syd)
After completing a Bachelor of Science (Architecture) at the University of Sydney in 1977, Jonathan worked in computer sales for six years for Burroughs Corporation (Sydney and London) and then Wang Computer (Sydney), selling systems solutions in the insurance and banking sectors.
From 1985 to 2015 Jonathan enjoyed a 30 year career at Macquarie Bank in a variety of roles and businesses. These included foreign exchange for five years, and from 1992 onwards he was focussed in resource and commodity finance businesses, originating transactions for the Bank’s balance sheet, managing client relationships, and managing and developing staff teams. Jonathan served as an Executive Director from 1999 onwards.
Jonathan has extensive experience in financial markets, risk management, lending, transaction structuring, contract negotiation (including equity investment and joint venture agreements), and dispute resolution. He served as chairman of the supervisory board of a private German renewable energy company from 2009 to 2013, representing Macquarie interests as that entity’s largest investor.
During his last six years at Macquarie in London, Jonathan served as an Integrity Officer for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. In this role he was a confidential contact point for staff with concerns about potential breaches of Macquarie’s Code of Conduct, or more general integrity issues. He was also the inaugural executive sponsor for a group of women executives in Macquarie London, creating programs and policies to empower and develop female staff within the context of the firm’s broader diversity policies.
Jonathan lives in Sydney, and is married with three adult sons.
Jonathan is the Chair of the University’s Finance Committee.
