Abstract: This paper looks at particular business practices that have been thrust into the spotlight by COVID-19. The focus is on Leicester, a city in the East Midlands of the UK. Through looking at events in the first city in the UK to experience a local lockdown, we can see how industries such as Fast Fashion are constructed and practices such as ESG investment play out. What becomes clear is that the model of globalization that we have accepted for many years; off-shore supply chains located in areas of relatively low wage and low business and environmental regulation, is no longer what occurs. The dynamics of Fast Fashion have inverted this model. ESG is a fast growing and very popular investment choice for pension funds and other institutional investors. The inclusion of Fast Fashion in the ESG basket raises particular challenges for its reputation.
