I am a biogeochemist with a special interest in carbon and carbonate cycling in coastal ocean environments including coastal "blue carbon" systems such as mangrove forests and seagrass beds. My research focuses on:
- Gas transfer velocities and gas exchange rates of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) at the water-atmosphere interface
- Quantifying inorganic carbon emissions from water and sediments to the atmosphere on regional and global scales
- Quantifying tidal exports and lateral inorganic and organic carbon fluxes between coastal environments and the ocean
- Coupling between inorganic and organic carbon and nutrient cycling pathways, biological processes, and groundwater-surface water interactions to reveal factors controlling gas fluxes in coastal environments
