Arrange your fees

• If you don’t have a TFN, get one. It’s needed for HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, or SA-HELP loans.
• Apply at an Australia Post branch or online on the Australian Tax Office website. 

• If you don’t have a USI, visit the Unique Student Identifier website.
• Your USI is essential; it’s free, stays with you for life, and tracks your qualifications.
• Make sure your USI is submitted exactly as it is provided to you by the USI registry.
• Ensure the personal details (“First Given name/Given name”, “Last/Family Name” and “Date of Birth”) you have provided to us also match the USI registry.

Understanding your USI: What you need to know

• A USI, or Unique Student Identifier, is a must for all students in Australia.
• Your USI is a lifelong ID that keeps a record of your qualifications and studies in Australia.
• It’s free and essential, so make sure to get one.

• In My Enrolment, select the Commonwealth Assistance tab.
• Choose “Add New” next to your newly admitted course.
• Complete the relevant forms based on your offer:
  • Commonwealth Supported: Complete the “Request for a Commonwealth supported place and a HECS-HELP loan” form. Consider “Request for a SA-HELP loan” as well.
  • Australian Fee Paying: Fill out “Request for a FEE-HELP loan” and “Request for a SA-HELP loan”.
• Ensure all information matches your legal details listed with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Understanding your payment options

When it comes to fees, there are several options based on your eligibility.

1. Upfront payment:

• After successfully enrolling in your units (as explained in Step 3), you can find the relevant fees within the “Finances” tab of My Enrolment.
• If you’re ready to pay immediately, simply click on “Make a Payment”.
• Alternatively, you can access your statement of account in this tab. It provides a comprehensive list of all outstanding fees, ordered by their respective due dates. You can check this statement at any time.

2. Deferred payment:

• If you’ve successfully completed the necessary HECS-HELP, SA-HELP, or FEE-HELP forms in previous steps and have nominated to defer your fees, no further action is required from you.
• This means your fees will be automatically deferred as per your approved HELP forms.

3. Partial payment:

• For those who’ve selected HECS-HELP, SA-HELP, or FEE-HELP for fee deferral, but wish to make a partial payment, here’s what to do:
  • Ensure you make the payment by the due date, as specified in the upfront payment instructions.
  • The remaining unpaid amount will be deferred in line with your approved HELP forms.

Every student will receive an emailed invoice. If all your fees are deferrable (such as with HECS-HELP, SA-HELP, or FEE-HELP), there’s no requirement for an upfront payment.

Important:

Regardless of your chosen payment method, you must provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI) for the process to proceed smoothly. If you haven’t submitted your USI with your Commonwealth Assistance form, you can use the USI eForm via myEnrolment. This ensures your payment records are accurately linked with your student profile.

Understanding SSAF (Student Services and Amenities Fee): What it is

• SSAF is a mandatory fee that supports non-academic amenities and services to enhance your student experience.
• Students who are incarcerated and international students studying at SCU Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, or offshore are also exempt from paying SSAF. Some preparatory courses are also exempt from SSAF.

Paying Your SSAF: Your Options

SSAF is charged in all teaching periods and must be paid each teaching periods by the due date.

The amount is consistent regardless of your enrolment mode or location, and it's charged per unit based on the unit’s credit point value.

You have two payment options for SSAF:

• Pay SSAF each teaching period by the due date. This prevents the fee from deferring to your SA-HELP loan.
  • Full payment of SSAF or approval of an SA-HELP application must occur before the due date to avoid fee-related sanctions. These sanctions could include withholding of transcripts and final grades.
• Eligible students can apply to defer the SSAF to the SA-HELP loan scheme and complete a ‘Request for a SA-HELP loan’ form to defer SSAF to the SA-HELP loan scheme. Learn how to request and complete the form through My Enrolment.
