Volunteer Connect Program
Did you know that international education is NSW's largest services export and second largest export overall, worth over $8 billion to the economy and supporting over 46,000 NSW jobs? To further enhance this regional asset, Southern Cross University, supported by Study NSW, has developed an exciting initiative, Volunteer Connect. This program connects international students with local businesses during the student’s first months in Australia. Regional businesses learn more about our international students and gain an insight into preferences of this important consumer group and build mutually beneficial relationships.
Southern Cross University provides all international students with training on Australian workplace culture. We also have a dedicated Volunteer Connect Co-ordinator who works with host organisations and students, ensuring a rewarding learning experience for students and host organisations. As a regional business, you can become involved by hosting a first year international student for 15 hours of work experience or having a group of students complete a project relevant to your international marketing needs.
How the program works
The program is open to first year international students in Session 1, 2018. The program presents a number of workshops to assist the students in understanding Australian work place culture. Graduate Mentors are assigned to the students as additional support. Students are then matched with a local host organisation to complete their choice of traditional work experience or completion of a culturally relevant project.
Host organisations can register on the Live Ideas Submit Project page. Please include the words “Volunteer Connect” in the project title section. Southern Cross University provides insurance coverage for students.
