The Tech Voucher program funds collaborative research and development projects between Southern Cross University and innovative small to medium businesses, funded by the NSW Government.

Tech Vouchers help reduce the barriers businesses can face accessing expertise, training, and facilities; and support business growth by working together to create new products and services, accelerate innovation and support commercialisation.
Tech Vouchers range from $5,000 to $50,000. Businesses and projects must meet the eligibility criteria below, and provide matched funding upon project completion.

How does the process work?

Apply

Check your eligibility to apply and submit your idea using the form below. We will be in touch to inform you on whether your project is considered.

Develop Project Plan

Meeting to better understand your needs and co-develop a project plan including cost, goals, milestones, intellectual property arrangements etc.

Final Projects Chosen

Projects plans will be assessed by an independent assessment panel on the deliverability, benefits and commercialisation potential.

NSW Government Approval

Projects are assessed and approved by Investment NSW.

Project Commences

Project commences and is completed within a year.

Project Completion

Investment NSW and Southern Cross University help you to promote the project and provide advice on accessing local and international markets.

Who can apply

To be eligible, your business must: 

  • Have an ABN registered in NSW and be based in NSW
  • Employ fewer than 200 employees, as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, at the time of application
  • Not be a subsidiary of a revenue generating business locally or overseas. If part of a group, the parent company or entity must apply on behalf of the consolidated entity and meet all eligibility requirements
  • Not be owned, employ, or have any financial ties of any kind with any of the proposed researchers for the project
  • Have the rights to commercialise their products or services and/or do not infringe on existing protected IP
  • Have secured matched funding (no in-kind) for the project
  • Not be receiving and have not received any other grant or subsidy for substantially the same project from a State Government or Commonwealth agency or department
  • Work in industry sectors or technologies identified in the NSW Industry Development Framework: clean energy and waste, medical and life sciences, digital systems and software, defence and aerospace, international education, visitor economy, agriculture and agrifood, resources, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing and biotechnology

Types of projects funded

To be eligible for Tech Vouchers funding, projects must:

  • be completed within 12 months from the start date
  • incur active collaboration between the business and Southern Cross University
  • have a defined commercialisation outcome, these include:

- development of an innovative product or service

- solving a technical or technological problem that hinders development of a product or service

- improvement of internal research and development capacities

- improvement of the business model or commercial processes
