SCU hosts Gala ConcertPublished 20 October 2004
Southern Cross University’s 10th birthday celebrations will culminate in a free Gala Concert, featuring the best of the university and the community’s musical talent, on Saturday, November 13 at the Lismore City Hall.
The Gala Concert and community reception is the last major event in SCU’s 10th birthday celebrations and tickets can be reserved through NORPA from Thursday, October 21.
The concert is being hosted by SCU’s Chancellor, the Honourable John Dowd AO QC and the Council of the University, with special guests the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC and her husband Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE.
The concert will feature a range of local artists including the Lismore Show Choir, the Nouveaux Singers, the Conservatorium Dancers and the best of SCU’s performers covering jazz through to the sounds of SCU’s Big Band.
Chancellor Dowd said the concert was the university’s gift to the staff and community and was a fitting way to end the 10th anniversary year.
“This is our way of saying thank you to past and present staff, our partners and the community for the support they have given Southern Cross University during the last 10 years,” Chancellor Dowd said.
“The institution, which started out as the Lismore Teacher’s College in 1971, has come a long way. Since becoming an independent university in 1994, SCU has established an excellent reputation for innovative courses and has become internationally recognised for research in a range of fields.
We now look forward to continued strong growth in the next 10 years and the ongoing involvement with the community and our partners in Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads.”
A community reception will start at 6.30pm in the Foyer of Lismore City Hall, followed by the concert at 7.30pm in the Churchill Auditorium. Free tickets, available from NORPA, will be allocated on a first-in, first served basis and will not be available at the door.
