Mr Rallings, Southern Cross University’s group director Student Services, said he believed learning should be a ‘life-long adventure’ and urged anyone interested in finding out what’s on offer to come along to a mid-year intake information session.
“The sessions are an excellent way in which to find out about our course options, costs, how to apply and how we support our students,” he said.
“Students can study full-time or part-time, on-campus at Lismore, Coffs Harbour or Tweed Gold Coast, or by distance education.
“We also run a special course called Preparing for Success which provides an alternative entry path into study at our University for people who may not have the formal qualifications to apply through regular means. It’s a great course for people who feel they need some preparation before studying at uni.”
Southern Cross University is offering a mid-year intake in the majority of its courses to allow for greater flexibility for potential students, many of whom have to juggle work and family commitments.
Places are available in courses including business, law, arts, social science, visual arts, media, tourism and hospitality, environmental science, clinical science and nursing as well as a range of postgraduate options.
Special to Southern Cross University this year is the new state-of-the-art, web-based audio conferencing software Elluminate Live! being used for the first time on all campuses.
The software allows teachers to engage actively with students in an electronic classroom and is set to revolutionise the way teaching is conducted, giving students flexibility in terms of where and when they learn.
Not only can students watch a presentation in a lecture theatre or classroom, but so long as they have an internet connection (dial-up or broadband), they can also choose to ‘attend’ the lecture by sitting in front of their computer anywhere, such as at work, home, at a library or while travelling, Mr Rallings said.
If they miss the presentation, they can download it later when convenient and review it like a video, or sound can be stripped out and delivered as a podcast.
