Southern Cross University has postponed graduation ceremonies planned for Sydney this weekend in line with the NSW government’s extended COVID restrictions.
Around 2000 people - graduands, their families and friends along with the University’s staff - were expected to gather on Saturday May 15 at the Sydney International Convention Centre.
NSW Health’s COVID restrictions, in force until May 17, require wearing of masks inside a venue and mingling is discouraged.
“This is a very difficult decision to make, but the University has always put the health and safety of our students and staff ahead of any other consideration,” said Vice President, Operations Mr Allan Morris.
“Given the uncertainty of the current COVID situation in Greater Sydney, the risk posed to students and staff who would be travelling into a restricted area, coupled with the requirement for all attendees to wear masks, it is right to postpone the graduation ceremonies.”
New dates for postponed ceremonies are being planned.
