The Australian Computer Society (ACS), the professional association for Australia’s technology sector, has awarded Southern Cross University graduate Matt Bowles a prestigious medal for his academic performance as Queensland's top IT student.

Matt was awarded his medal by Mathew Eames, Board Member at the ACS, at a ceremony on the Gold Coast campus this week.

“To be awarded with the ACS Medal validates that the long hours and exhausting effort spent on assessment items were well worth it. It provides me with the encouragement to continue to strive within the field and advance my IT knowledge,” said Matt.

Associate Professor Rania Mason remarked: “We hear so many stories of success from our graduates, and it was wonderful to see Matt Bowles honoured by the Australian Computer Society for his stand-out results. The Bachelor of Information Technology is designed to prepare students for jobs and our graduates are in demand. Matt already has a great job in the local area, as a software developer. It was a privilege to celebrate his success at the ACS Medal ceremony.”

Matt joined Southern Cross University as a full-time student in 2018. “I highly value my time spent studying at Southern Cross, especially due to the breadth of applicable topics that were offered in the Bachelor of Information Technology course, ranging from highly practical software development methodologies to managing corporate networking infrastructure.

“I enjoyed the small class and workshop sizes that allowed for more personalised assistance from highly knowledgeable lecturers and unit coordinators when needed. I also appreciated the ease of accessibility provided by course material and lectures being offered online.”

Asked about his future plans, Matt says he may potentially transition to a more traditional software engineering position with his current employer, a global provider of safety, security and compliance solutions.
