Gaynor Palmer
B Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering

Gaynor loved watching her father take things apart as a child, handing him tools and learning how things are put together. An early career as a hairdresser put her dreams of engineering on hold, but it was a dream she didn’t give up. She persisted through a TAFE pathway course, studying engineering at night while working as a hairdresser by day, finally entering a Southern Cross engineering degree. “In engineering I call on my skills from hairdressing a lot: communication, negotiation, problem solving, working with people and using knowledge to apply to individual situations.

B Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering

Indonesia's Way Kambas National Park on the island of Sumatra has been the focus of wildlife surveys and conservation work by Southern Cross University students for several years now. Jason went there on a New Colombo Plan Scholarship - and put his engineering knowledge to good use at the Elephant Conservation Centre, which is dedicated to caring for orphaned elephants.
