In response to the overwhelmingly positive result of the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey—announced at 10am NSW time today—Southern Cross University reaffirms its unqualified support for legal and parliamentary change in this important area.

Chancellor Nick Burton Taylor said: "We believe as a Council that this 61.6% positive return reaffirms traditional Australian values of openness, inclusion and recognition of rights. We are resolute in our support for those values."

Vice Chancellor Adam Shoemaker added: "This University has always played its role in leading and endorsing progressive social change. In tandem with our Chancellor, we call on our parliamentarians to recognise the democratic voice of Australians in relation to marriage equality. The nation has spoken clearly and openly today."
