Southern Cross University PhD Scholarships

 

Southern Cross University has available two PhD scholarships. The scholarships are sponsored by the Environmental Analysis Laboratory (EAL). These scholarships will be awarded via a competitive process to two fulltime candidates. The conditions for the award are detailed in the Higher Degrees Research Scholarships Policy, and the stipend and fee-offset will be for a maximum period of three years with no extension possible.

 

The candidates can study at either the Lismore or Coffs Harbour (National Marine Science Centre) campuses.

 

The preferred areas of study are:

  • Organic Agriculture Research
  • Flood Mitigation
  • Coastal Engineering
  • Food  Security
  • Environmental Contamination
  • Renewable Energy
  • Global Change

Candidates will be selected based on a consideration of the following:

 

  • First class Honours (or equivalent grade), noting that a minimum requirement is second class honours first division (H2A);
  • 3rd Year GPA score or equivalent;
  • Publications where the candidate is an author (note that a statement of contribution to each paper listed will be required);
  • Research project and its alignment with one or more of the preferred areas of study;
  • Candidates will need to secure two Southern Cross University supervisors to support their application;

The successful applicants will need to apply and meet the entry requirements to enrol in a PhD at Southern Cross University on a full time basis.

 

International candidates are eligible to apply, however, if successful the successful candidate will need to fund their own travel to Australia to commence studies, application fees associated with any required visa and overseas health cover insurance expenses. International applicants may be required to undertake a Skype/Zoom interview.

 

Note that currently enrolled PhD candidates are not eligible to apply for these scholarships.  

 

The 2018 value of the full-time Scholarship Stipend is AUD $27,082 per annum. This amount is indexed annually

PhD Scholarship in Vertebrate Ecology

A scholarship is available to study a squirrel glider population living in remnant habitat in Brisbane.

The project aims to understand how squirrel gliders respond to an approved development which may lead to a short-term loss of some habitat but a long-term increase in habitat area.

The study will track the population over time and investigate how squirrel gliders respond to a range of mitigation measures.

The successful student should have First Class Honours (or equivalent) in vertebrate ecology.

The stipend is for $30,000 p.a. for 3 years.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be supported by the project.

The Capstone Editing Conference Travel Grant for Postgraduate Research Students $3,000 for one postgrad student per year to assist in covering the costs of attending a conference in relation to their degree. Applications are open from 1 July to 1 June every year. The grant will be awarded on 30 June every year, with the recipient chosen from among the applicants from the previous 12 months.
