Whale Watching Tour

Cost: $99 AUD. Date AM 23/10/20

  • AM Cruise. Depart Tweed Heads

Humpback Whales are the stars of the show although our tours often encounter Bottlenose Dolphins, Common Dolphins, sharks, turtles, and albatross. Within 20 minutes of departure from Sea World, you will be assisting our expert crew to find Humpback Whales by scanning the horizon for the famous “blow”. At this point in the tour, there is always great anticipation which quickly turns to excitement when a distant splash or a great exhalation of breath confirms we have found a whale.

Gold Coast Hinterland Tour

Cost: TBA AUD. Date 23/10/20

Travel 60km from Coolangatta to the heritage listed Natural Bridge where you can take a short walk to see the unique flora and fauna as you make your way to the inside of the cave and see the water cascading through the rock of the basal cave which has been formed over millions of years. Visit O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards for wine tasting and light lunch.

  • 9.00am: Depart Southern Cross University
  • 1.30pm: Arrive back at Southern Cross University

Field Excursions led by Griffith Centre for Coastal Management 

The Griffith Centre for Coastal Management helps communities to build coastal resilience, protect the environment and plan for the future. Our research expertise spans coastal engineering plus urban catchment, floodplain and water resource management. Our specialists are also qualified in analysing coastal processes, as well the impacts of climate change on coastlines.

Tour 1: Beach Management on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast 19 October 2020, $120 per person (including lunch)

This field trip provides an overview of beach management on the Gold Coast with stops at all of the iconic Gold Coast locations including technical insights into the sand bypassing systems, artificial reefs for coastal protection and surfing amenity and community education.

Tour 2: Iconic Byron Bay – Challenges for Coastal Management

Byron Bay 23 October 2020, $120 per person (including lunch)

Byron Bay is one of the most popular and iconic destinations in Australia with its laid-back lifestyle, world famous beaches, natural beauty and diverse residents. Walk your way up through subtropical rainforest to the Byron Lighthouse, the most easterly point of the Australian Mainland, for a spectacular 360 degree ocean and Byron hinterland view and to get an insight into the challenges for coastal management in eastern Australia.

Cancellation and refund policy

All cancellations must be made in writing to the Conference Secretariat ( and the refund will be issued after the Conference. Refunds will not be granted on the failure of a visa application. The Conference Secretariat will acknowledge receipt of your cancellation by email.

Refund for cancellation of registration will be made and subject to the following deadline and administrative charge:

  • Prior to 90 days: full refund less an AUD150 cancellation fee
  • 61 – 90 days prior: refunds will be issued, less a cancellation fee of 30% of the registration rate
  • 31 – 60 days prior: refunds will be issued, less a cancellation fee of 50% of the registration rate
  • 0 – 30 days prior: no refunds applicable

The refund will be returned via the same payment method as the original receipt of funds. No refund will be made after 20 September 2020 however, an alternative delegate name may be provided in writing and the booking and funds will be allocated accordingly.

Please note, no refund or discount will be made if an inclusive function or event within the registration fee is not taken up or is subsequently cancelled. Where there are extenuating circumstances a refund outside of these terms may be considered by and at the discretion of the Organising Committee.


Participants are strongly advised to secure appropriate travel and health insurance. Delegate registration fees do not provide any such insurance coverage. The Organising Committee and the Conference Secretariat accept no responsibility for any loss in this regard.


All Registration Fees and Additional Ticket rates are quoted in Australian Dollars and are inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The organiser will send you a letter of invitation upon request and after the conference registration payment has been received. Please email the conference secretariat to request a letter of invitation.
