SCU Rugby Gold Rats

The University’s Rugby Club, known as the Gold Rats, marked its 50th season in 2019. In 2023, the club is offering scholarships to students studying in a degree at the Lismore Campus.

$3000 ($1,500 in two instalments).

The Southern University Rugby club will also pay for the scholarship recipient rugby membership fees, valued at $250 as well as liaise with the Southern Cross University Swim and Gym who will provide a free membership for the successful recipient, valued at appropriately $500.

Course of study

Any undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the Lismore Campus.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants applying for this scholarship must:

  1. Be admitted and enrolled either full-time or part-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Southern Cross University, Lismore Campus. AND
  2. Be a current or new player in the Far North Coast 1st grade rugby competition, or Women’s competition, for the SCU Rugby Club in the year the scholarship is offered. Scholarship holders must have experience as a representative or 1st grade, or Women’s rugby player.

Both current and new students are eligible to apply.

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on an assessment of:

  1. Academic merit
  2. An assessment of a one-page document provided by the applicant outlining their personal experience and passion for rugby, why they are applying for the scholarship and what they hope to achieve in the future through the completion of their chosen degree AND
  3. An evaluation of further documentation provided by the application including
    • A one-page Rugby CV
    • Supporting documentary evidence of the experience (if available)
    • Two referee names and contact details
