Studio drawing

Studio drawing at Southern Cross UniversityDrawing students gain an understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of contemporary drawing. The drawing units utilise the 'drawing as a verb' to focus student learning on a range of traditions, practices, skills and knowledge within the context of contemporary drawing. Students are introduced to studio routines, research and journal keeping as fundamental visual arts practice.

Figure drawing, portraiture, landscape drawing and thematically-based project work form the basis of drawing studies. Using an analytical approach, media, content, and the artistic options of contemporary drawing practice are explored. Students are encouraged to develop individuality and creativity within this context.

The studio drawing facility includes a flexible workspace that enables a variety of teaching strategies from life drawing to installation practice.
