ACMSM23 2014: In 2014 the engineering group organised a major international conference in Byron Bay, namely, the 23rd Australasian Conference on the Mechanics of Structures and Materials (ACMSM23), attracting more than 180 delegates from Australia and abroad, and brought significant exposure to the new engineering program at SCU. The conference series commenced in 1967 and has become very well-known and respected in Australasia and abroad.

AAAEE2016: In 2016 the engineering group hosted the 27th Australasian Association for Engineering Education Conference (AAEE2016). The Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) conference series is the preeminent event of AAEE that is aimed to promote scholarship in engineering education and to facilitate the dissemination of best practices throughout the engineering education community. The theme for the conference was "The Changing Role of the Engineering Education for developing the Future Engineer" and there were around 200 delegates in attendance.

Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN): In 2017 the engineering group hosted the UCCRN Australian Oceania Hub two day conference as an opportunity to foster sharing with all people and organisations involved in regional and global initiatives that offer transformational approaches to meeting the challenge of climate change.  Dr Ken Doust, Co-Director of UCCRN Australian Oceania Hub facilitated the event at both Gold Coast Campus on day one and Lismore Campus of Southern Cross University on day two.
