Facilities - Lismore campus
The laboratories and specialist facilities utilised by students studying degrees at the Lismore campus through the School of Health and Human Sciences offer modern, safe, and specialised state-of-the-art teaching and learning environments.
Anatomy and Physiology Lab - is utilised by students studying nursing, sport & exercise science and osteopathy. A range of scientific and diagnostic equipment and interactive software provides students with hands-on learning experience in preparation for entry into nursing, exercise and allied health professions. Equipment includes life-sized anatomical models, microscopes, histological slides, dissection and psychological testing equipment.
Anatomy Cadaver Lab - is the only lab of its type in Australia located outside a major metropolitan area. It provides the opportunity for students to gain an in-depth understanding of the function of human bones, muscles and ligaments, as well as the cardiovascular, urinary, reproductive, respiratory, and nervous systems of the human body. The lab utilises cadaver specimens, giving osteopathy and sport & exercise science students a unique experience and insight into human anatomy to facilitate learning and pedagogy in the allied health and scientific fields.
Chemistry Lab - is equipped with chemistry preparation equipment and analytical instrumentation for chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition and food science studies. Osteopathy and sport & exercise students are taught in this facility.
Sport & Exercise Science Facilities - include the weights room, exercise physiology lab and movement lab that enable students to learn and conduct tests relating to strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, biomechanics and neuroscience. They include both free weights and weight machines, ergometry equipment such as bikes and treadmills, as well as an expired gas analysis system, motion capture and analysis system, force plate, EMG, ECG, spirometry and other human measurement equipment. Sport & exercise science students also make use of the sports field, indoor court and swimming pool facilities.
Manual Therapies Labs - are designed to enable osteopathy students to develop their skills in massage, treatment and manipulation techniques.
Nursing Labs - are fitted with state of the art hospital and electronic teaching equipmentin simulated clinical ward environments. Part-task trainers and mannequins allow students to practice skills as well as involve themselves in scenario-based learning and patient care. The hi-fidelity sim lab is equipped with SIM-man, a programmable interactive model which simulates real life conditions and patients.
