For Health Professionals
I am an Australian born, second generation Cantonese Chinese. I have an 8 year old son whom I adore. My first occupation is a father & I have been or am involved in a few parenting programs & projects for the public & professionally. One involves integrating a worthwhile & effective work/career-life with a loving & present parent/family life.
I currently work at Headspace (a nationwide youth mental health service:12-25 yr olds) & in private practise in Mullumbimby. Previously, I have worked for mental health services (community mental health, in an acute psychiatric ward), community health, NGOs in family counselling, domestic violence, addiction services (community outreach, rehab, & detox units), prisons, youth refuges, residential units for developmentally disabled & psychiatric population groups.
My interests & skills include working with families with mental health issues, relationship issues, anxiety & trauma presentations, addictions (substances, gambling, sex), cross-cultural/ ATSI concerns & working with men. Also, I have an interest in positive psychology & it's application in the work-place or organisations.
I am a trained family therapist, am a registered psychologist & have degrees in social work, as well as program assessment & evaluation.
For Public/ SCU clientele
I have worked in the mental health area for nearly 25 years in a variety of settings & with a broad range of people. From acute psychiatric wards, to more pervasive community settings (eg. community counselling): working with children & their families, couples or with single adults. Presentations include: anxiety, low mood or depression, trauma, or coping with major life stressors (eg. natural disasters, divorce/ separation, significant physical illnesses/ workplace accidents).
I have graduated from tertiary institutions & have completed 5 university level degrees, so I believe I know a little about university life & its stressors: it's impact to relationships, families & the community. I am an Australian born Cantonese Chinese, so I'm interested & have experience in the cross-cultural experience: in migration & resettlement issues, trauma or torture (in some refugee population groups). My studies and interest in 'positive psychology' - now called studies in 'happiness' have led my work to include how well-being can incorporate notions of gratitude, intimacy or connectedness in everyday life and, identifying or following one's life purpose.
I have been trained in working with families, couples (couple & family therapist), & individuals.
So, I look forward in meeting you.
