Southern Cross University Head-Start has been created to offer successful applicants a rich and challenging learning experience with a range of benefits.

Successfully completing the Headstart program and your year 12 studies can gain you direct entry into a Southern Cross University undergraduate course (excluding Education courses).

Advanced standing

You will be given advanced standing for your completed unit of study when you enrol in a relevant SCU course.

A reduction in your HECS liability

Through advanced standing for the unit you complete you will receive a reduction in your HECS liability based on your study load when you choose to enrol in a relevant SCU course.

Head-Start fits in with your timetable not the other way around

SCU Head-Start has been designed to fit in with most high school time tables. This means you don't miss valuable lessons with your high school teachers.

You have a variety of course choices at the end of year 12

Things can change significantly over two years, something you wanted to do in year 10 may be nothing like you want to do at the end of year 12. SCU Head-Start will give you direct entry to many undergraduate courses at SCU. This gives you a variety of study options once you complete the program and your senior studies.

Head-Start allows you to network academically

The Head-Start program will create opportunities for you to connect with like-minded, high-achieving students through a range of social networking and academic activities.

We have one person who looks after the whole Head-Start program

Our dedicated Head-Start co-ordinator is an experienced secondary school teacher who is familiar with a tertiary environment. The Head-Start Coordinator is the sole point of contact for the program which means response turn around to your inquiries will be quick and direct. This role has been created to help make your taste of university life a positive and fulfilling experience.

What are SCU experiences?

Head-Start students will be invited to several academic networking experiences created to further develop a passion for knowledge and intellectual pursuits.

These experiences aim to provide participants with a competitive edge in their Year 11 and 12 studies with a significant portion of the content linked to the senior school syllabus. Students will be notified of dates throughout the program.
