Pathways towards English language proficiency

All Southern Cross applicants must meet the University's Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements for Southern entry (admission) into a Southern Cross course, outlined in the Rules Relating to Awards - Rule 2.

English language proficiency for Australian or New Zealand applicants

  • be an Australian-born, Australian citizen;
  • complete Year 12 in Australia;
  • complete at least 1 year of equivalent full-time study in an AQF level 5 Diploma, or higher qualification, taught and assessed in English; or
  • complete an approved foundation course at an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or Higher Education Provider (HEP), e.g. the Preparing for Success at SCU Program.

English language proficiency for International applicants

Generally, students who study English for Academic Purposes with SCU College do not need to sit an IELTS or ToEFL test to continue their study in another Southern Cross course.

Some Southern Cross courses have higher minimum English Language Proficiency requirements detailed in the Course structure information.
