Unit description
Environmental Psychology deals with the environment in all its guises - residential dwellings, leisure spaces, work settings, public spaces, road systems, airports, and other purpose-designed areas. It concerns the effect of the environment on behaviour and emotions and the effect of attitudes and behaviour on the environment. The unit is designed to explore the general theoretical and conceptual issues and to allow scope for students to develop knowledge and skills in specific areas of application.

- Theories of environment-behaviour relations
- Differences and similarities between the natural vs the built environment with regard to environmental psychological issues
- Personal space and territoriality, density of population
- Architecture and human behaviour
- Noise
- Pollution
- Transport
- Conservation of resources
- Preservation of fauna and flora
- The future: will there be a space psychology?
Learning outcomes
