Unit description
Considers prior knowledge of the human body and further develops and extends this at the cellular, tissue, organ, and systems level. This understanding will serve to integrate structure, function and physiology and its application to studies in health and human sciences.
Unit content
- Concept of homeostasis and cellular and tissue physiology
- Musculo-skeletal system
- The Nervous System
- The Immune system
- The Sensory Organs
- The Cardiovascular System,
- The Lymphatic system
- The Endocrine System
- The Respiratory System
- The Digestive System
- The Urinary System
- The Male and Female Reproductive Systems
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
Learning outcomes and graduate attributes
On completion of this unit, students should be able to: | GA1 | GA2 | GA3 | GA4 | GA5 | GA6 | GA7 | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Demonstrate knowledge of the structural organisation of the human body from cellular to system level. | Knowledge of a discipline | ||||||
2 | Demonstrate knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the normal functions of the human body, and its responses to changes in the internal and external environment. | Knowledge of a discipline | ||||||
3 | Explain the inter-relationships of structure and function of systems of the human body. | Knowledge of a discipline | ||||||
4 | Explain homeostatic mechanisms that maintain stable internal conditions within the intracellular and extracellular environments of the human body. | Knowledge of a discipline |
