Unit description

Introduces students to financial planning including investments, superannuation, retirement and cash-flow planning, taxation, legal structures, risk assessment, insurance, and estate planning. Students will engage in teacher directed activities and experiences relevant to contemporary wealth management and critical aspects of the financial planner-client relationship.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1describe and critically appraise the role of a financial planner
2describe the range of financial services provided by a financial planner
3explain the importance of the financial planner-client relationship
4develop appropriate financial planning strategies for a range of clients
5Recommend various types of investment products for inclusion in a client wealth building strategy
6advise client's on their exposure to investment and financial risk
7outline and explain the taxation, legal and ethical framework which financial planners operate within.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
