Unit description
Critically analyses the role of the founder from business startup to maturity. Students explore the evolution of the startup process and build their entrepreneurial knowledge across various contexts of leadership, building teams, managing external stakeholders, executing strategy and financing.

PART ONE: Starting a Business
Week 1: The Startup Process (A walk through the contemporary approach to starting a business)
Weel 2: Understanding Entrepreneurs (An enquiry into the traits and behaviours of an entrepreneur)
Week 3: Founders in profile (a look at entrepreneurs in profile about the above weeks)
Week 4: Do you really want to do this?
PART TWO: Evolution through the startup process
Week 5: Leadership through the startup process (maintaining motivation in uncertain early stage)
Week 6: Organisation design through the startup process: Building Startup teams (internal) (co-founders and first 5)
Week 7: Managing external stakeholders (boards, funders, customers)
Week 8: Strategy and execution in startups vs mature companies (searching for a business model versus executing one effectively)
Week 9: Finance through the startup process
PART 3: Letting go and exit
Week 10: Leadership from startup to maturity
Week 11: Letting go (Founder transition away from business)
Week 12: Self-awareness and reflection: Where to from here? (awareness work about students’ capabilities and what that means for future entrepreneurial pursuit)
Learning outcomes
