Unit description

Expands the first year Applied Mechanics unit to investigate the mechanics of solid materials. The mechanical properties of materials are addressed in addition to internal stresses and strains resulting from axial, bending, shear, torsion and combined loadings. Transformation of stress and strain theory is presented as well as failure theories. Deflection of flexural members and the buckling of compression members are also addressed.
