Unit description
Develops students' capability in advanced design and analysis of buildings and civil engineering structures. Demonstrates the use of prestressing steel to design concrete structures in accordance with the Australian Standard. Presents the principles of advanced structural analysis.
Unit content
General concepts of prestressed concrete
Critical stress state design and analysis of prestressed concrete elements
Design of end blocks for prestressing anchorages
Advanced Structural Analysis
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to: | |
---|---|
1 | demonstrate an understanding of prestressed concrete technology including the materials involved, the behaviour of prestressed concrete elements, the prestressing techniques and the losses of prestress |
2 | design and analyse prestressed concrete elements using critical stress state approach and Magnel’s diagram |
3 | demonstrate an understanding of the behaviour of prestressing anchorages, bond stresses, anchor heads and end blocks |
4 | use advanced structural analysis techniques to analyse complex structures. |
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of prestressed concrete technology including the materials involved, the behaviour of prestressed concrete elements, the prestressing techniques and the losses of prestress
- design and analyse prestressed concrete elements using critical stress state approach and Magnel’s diagram
- demonstrate an understanding of the behaviour of prestressing anchorages, bond stresses, anchor heads and end blocks
