Unit description

Applies knowledge of primary health and chronic disease management to the role of the Diabetes Educator within the primary healthcare team. Students identify the issues associated with chronic disease within the community, and demonstrate advanced knowledge of co morbidities, referral procedures, and scope of practice of the diabetes educator and other team members within the primary healthcare team including Dietitians, Optometrists, Podiatrists, Exercise Physiologists, and Psychologists.

Topic 3: Implementation of research outcomes into health systems.
Topic 4: Resource allocation within the Australian Healthcare system
Topic 5: Development of the role of the diabetes educator within primary health
Topic 6: Chronic disease and its impact on society
Topic 7: Chronic disease and its impact on individuals and families.
Topic 8: Government strategies, research and funding.
Topic 9: Complication screening, the role of other allied health providers.
Topic 10: Medical nutrition therapy.
