Introduces students to outdoor education and adventure management as a personal development activity. The unit is presented in two parts, theoretical and practical. The theory component will be delivered during University based tutorials and in the field, while the practical component will be delivered during field trips. The focus of the unit is two-fold: to investigate how outdoor education activities and settings can enable the development of personal skills and personal development; and, to enable the students to participate in a range of outdoor pursuits and to develop personal both hard and soft outdoor education and management skills.
- Basic map reading and navigation with map and compass, within a wilderness setting.
- Equipment, food, basic camp craft, first aid, minimal impact principles.
- Planning and implementing an outdoor education activity, including within a wilderness setting.
