Focuses on the complex nature of young people's health status and wellbeing and the role that schools play in working to promote young people's health. The unit explores factors that shape the health of young people as well as the various meanings that are attributed to health. The unit investigates current public health and curriculum policy contexts and explores their application to school program development.
Unit contentThis unit is divided into two modules. The first module focuses on developing key understandings related to the health and wellbeing of young people. It also explores how and why schools have been called upon to operate as key settings for health promotion, both historically, and in the present. The second module focuses on exploring key frameworks and their application to promoting young people's health and wellbeing. The second module utilises a case study based approach to develop understandings about young people's social and emotional wellbeing and how this can be promoted in schools via curriculum teaching and learning, supportive school environments and the establishment of community links.
