Builds on students' existing English language abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening to develop skills to prepare students for Masters’ level studies. Students will engage in a range of in-class activities which use current digital, academic and information literacies within the context of future studies.
Upper-Intermediate English forms and functions enabling Master’s level study at SCU (with 6.5 entry), covering:
- A range of grammar structures and vocabulary appropriate to academic discourse
- A range of discourse markers and cohesive structures appropriate to academic discourse
- Maintaining conversations and giving presentations
- Listening to and reading academic texts for information
- Academic writing genres (reports, essays, discussion boards)
- Academic integrity practices: text ownership and authorship
- Digital literacy practices: understanding, using, and communicating with multimedia technology
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit.
