Unit description

Introduces a theory-based understanding of literacy and numeracy in education; and enables advanced knowledge in these fields of knowledge to be applied to professional areas.

  1. Introduction to teaching for literacy and numeracy
  2. Literacy demands: Reading and viewing
  3. Literacy demands: Writing
  4. Literacy demands: Speaking and listening
  5. Supporting literacy learning with a range of strategies and resources
  6. The role of mathematics and numeracy in education
  7. Numeracy demands: Number and algebra. Supporting students for their numeracy needs
  8. Numeracy demands: Measurement and geometry; statistics and probability; Supporting students with diverse literacy needs
  9. Literacy and numeracy: Planning for teaching, programming and reporting, interpreting data
  10. Literacy and numeracy: Developing specific strategies to cater for students requiring additional support.
