Unit description

Introduces diverse philosophies relevant to the meanings and purposes of education. The unit provides a space for students to discuss and debate big ideas about education and observe their implications and applications in practice. Students are encouraged to recognise and develop ways of knowing and being that help them to think and act critically, creatively and inclusively in diverse educational contexts.

Module 6: The practices of critical and creative educators

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate an understanding of foundational educational concepts, contexts and contemporary issues.
2demonstrate ability to identify and critique educational philosophies and theories
3demonstrate an ability to identify and analyse the philosophical foundations of educational practices
4demonstrate an ability to critically and ethically reflect on personal assumptions and beliefs about the nature and purpose of education

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
