2024 unit offering information will be available in November 2023
Digital technology and literacies are an integral part of today's society. This unit equips students with the capacity to design learning experiences that engage Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary school students through the integration of digital technology. Each of the topics will provide opportunities to actively explore contemporary uses of technology for the development of 21st century learners. A range of technologies will be included from collaborative tools (such as google apps for education) to innovative technologies (such as virtual worlds and games). Issues faced by today's teachers will be discussed including social media, BYOD, digital safety and citizenship. At the core of this unit is developing an awareness of what it means to work with digital pedagogies to develop digitally literate students.
The focus of this unit is in developing strategies for students to activate 21st century competencies through the use of digital technology when working with children in Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary learning environments. Each topic will focus on one of the following competencies:
- Critical Thinking
Resources and activities will be provided that link technology to these key competencies and help students to develop confidence in integrating technology in their future teaching and learning environments. In order to remain current these technologies may change during the unit in response to debate and discussion that arise and technologies that emerge.
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
