Unit description

Develops students' higher-level understandings of teaching English curriculum and pedagogy and the application of skills and knowledge across the modes of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the early childhood and primary classroom. This is then applied with a focus on the planning, assessment, and differentiation of the English curriculum (Language, Literacy and Literature) to cater for diversity of learners.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

design an English unit of work that includes specifics about: English Curriculum and Pedagogy: reading, writing, speaking, and listening; assessment; and differentiated teaching and learning to meet the needs of diverse students

develop English assessment tasks and criteria for determining student learning

present differentiated teaching strategies and plans to meet the diverse needs of students in a scenario

review and critique the potential efficacy of the unit of work
