EDUC2023 - Industry and Material Practices B

Students undertaking the Industrial Technology teaching area are required to attend compulsory skills development workshops.

Unit description

Builds upon the knowledge and skills in Industry and Materials B to develop advanced design and production skills and knowledge of materials associated with either textiles or metal. This unit enhances students' understanding of contemporary and advanced practices, and a deeper understanding of the characteristics and properties of either textiles or metal. Students undertaking the metal pathway are required to participate in compulsory skills development workshops will extend students' skills and methods for the safe design, development and understanding of the appropriate technology and processes to produce quality products.

Unit content

Module 1 Innovative practices in materials use and/or process.

Module 2 Development of knowledge in material testing/or 3D modelling.

Module 3 Broad and critical materials knowledge of properties and performance.

Module 4 Complex production practices.

Module 5 Management in selection and use in a variety of resources and complex techniques.

Module 6 Problem-solving, safety, production and evaluation of complex products.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

critique current aspects and issues that impact the industry, industry products, society and the environment that have led to sustainable innovations and emerging technologies

discuss the practice of design processes and manufacture in an industry context

demonstrate advanced, contemporary skills and methods the use and maintenance of tools, equipment and/or machinery

apply project management (including WHS issues) and communication skills to the safe production and documentation of a complex, high quality product
