Unit description
Introduces students to key concepts in both the research literature and industry practice relevant to contemporary educational leadership, and relates these to national and international educational environments. Encourages students to reflect on their personal experience in relation to research literature on leadership, and to learn how to critically analyse and apply relevant leadership concepts in their professional practice.
Unit content
Topic 1: Introduction to concepts of educational leadership.
Topic 2: Theories and models of educational leadership and their practical implementation.
Topic 3: Influence of corporate and managerial models on educational leadership.
Topic 4: Challenges of leadership: ethics and values, balancing competing demands.
Topic 5: New ways of leading: distributed, collaborative, parallel and shared leadership models.
Topic 6: The role of inspiration and leadership as service in education settings.
Learning outcomes
