Unit description
Extends the skills and the beginning teacher’s methodological basis for teaching Dance or Drama in secondary schools with an emphasis on Stage 6 curriculum. It aims to provide students with a variety of teaching and learning strategies for use in the senior classroom. In Dance, students relate their knowledge and experiences of Dance as an art form and the elements of Dance through the aspects of performing, composing and appreciating. In Drama, students relate and extend their knowledge and experiences of the dramatic elements through the aspects of making, performing and critically studying dramatic and theatre.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to: | |

1 | demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the knowledge base of the Dance/Drama Stage 6 Syllabus, including recent theory and research, contemporary perspectives and issues, and relevant cultural contexts of perspectives |
2 | critically apply current pedagogical theory, including the NSW DEC Quality Teaching Framework, to develop effective teaching and learning strategies that encourage students with diverse learning needs, styles and cultural backgrounds to engage effectively with Music in Stages 6 |
3 | examine and appraise assessment and reporting procedures and strategies in the context of the Preliminary and HSC standards-referenced assessment framework, and prepare assessment tasks and marking criteria for Stage 6 outcomes |
4 | apply theoretical and conceptual knowledge to understand the place of dance/drama within the school and the wider community and the contribution made to students' personal, social and intellectual development and wellbeing |
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
