Introduces students to the application of computational numerical methods for simulation, optimisation, linear and non-linear equations, integration and differential equations. Develops skills in applying numerical methods for solving civil engineering problems, utilising software such as Excel and Visual Basic programming.
Topic 1: The Use of Excel and Visual Basic for Computational Numerical Methods.
Topic 2: Theory and Practice of Simulations, such as Monte Carlo Simulations.
Topic 3: Computing Solutions of Nonlinear and Linear Equations.
Topic 4: Numerical Methods for Optimisation.
Topic 5: Introduction to Differential Equations.
Topic 6: Numerical Modelling of Differential Equations.
Topic 7: Numerical Integration.
