Develops understanding of the technical, commercial and financial elements required to successfully tender for projects. Students will develop a working knowledge of estimating methods, quantity takeoffs, costs, and price determination, in addition to learning the importance of non-cost based components and considerations and evaluation of tenders. A scenario-based learning approach is used to guide students in applying the knowledge and skills developed throughout their studies to complete a real industry-based engineering project tender.
Module 1: The tendering process
Module 2: Estimating - high level
Module 3: Estimating - detailed
Module 4: The client's perspective
Module 5: The contractor's perspective
Module 6: Managing costs
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
|On completion of this unit, students should be able to:|
|1||design a program of investigation to address a well-defined engineering problem for a tender|
|2||produce detailed costing and work schedules for a tender|
|3||develop a skills and competency matrix for a team to meet the tender requirements|
|4||identify and evaluate emerging trends and issues as part of a tender.|
