Unit description

Enables formulation, execution and communication of outcomes of a major engineering project related to their field of engineering specialisation in a professional engineering workplace environment. Students integrate knowledge and skills gained throughout the course of their studies, including technical capability, project planning and design, communication, teamwork and management. Students also finalise an ePortfolio that documents development of proficiency in the 16 Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competencies for Professional Engineers. This unit represents part one of a project that runs over two units.

Unit content

Students are required to work independently on their major project under the guidance of academic and workplace supervisors.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1apply systematic processes to formulate, design and manage the undertaking of a complex engineering project in the chosen field of engineering specialisation in a workplace with some independence
2generate, evaluate and select from alternative design solutions to a complex engineering problem in the chosen field of engineering specialisation in a workplace with some independence
3effectively communicate outcomes from a complex engineering project to a range of stakeholders in written and oral forms
4critically reflect on and self-assess development of proficiency in the Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competencies for Professional Engineers

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
