Unit description

Facilitates the execution of an extended research project based on the proposal developed in the unit Engineering Thesis I.

Unit content

Students are required to continue working independently on their chosen research topic under the guidance of their academic supervisor.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1execute a previously developed research plan with some independence, adapting the plan if necessary as the research proceeds, in a manner consistent with the available time and resource constraints
2collect, arrange and critically analyse results at a standard expected for publishable research, commensurate with the size and scope of the research project
3critically evaluate research results in the context of existing knowledge
4communicate research outcomes through an original research paper and a seminar delivered in the style of typical academic research outputs
