ENVR2002 - Wildlife Conservation

Enrolment information

A compulsory 4-day field camp for Online and On Campus students is conducted during which most of the practical work is done.

Unit description

Introduces the theory and practice of wildlife conservation. This includes learning the techniques used to collect basic data for wildlife management and conservation. Emphasises developing the skills required to communicate the results of research projects that investigate conservation issues. This unit includes a Masters Tutorial component in which students critically analyse advanced issues in the field.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate correct ethical approaches to animal survey and handling

demonstrate the skills required to independently conduct a wildlife survey and to accurately identify wildlife

describe the basic principles of conservation biology

synthesize and critically evaluate the literature for a specific topic in wildlife conservation
