Unit description

Introduces students to forest operations and technology. These include transport infrastructure, fire management, recreation and conservation and wood production. Issues of project management, budget and finance, legal matters and engineering design are incorporated.

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1capable of planning an operation incorporating an account of relevant technology, legislation, codes of practice, and operations management methods.
2proficient in landscape management zoning and communicating this skill as maps and associated land-use specifications.
3design roads and other types of infrastructure required by operations management through practical demonstration
4demonstrate knowledge of operations and infrastructure required by wood production, fire management, recreation and conservation land uses.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
