Unit description

In this unit students will deepen their foundational knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, in the context of healthy function, with added perspectives on disease, injury and ageing. They will gain a working knowledge of key tissues, combined with muscle and joint function and be able to use this knowledge to understand musculoskeletal contributions to human movement.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate an applied understanding of the mechanical properties of musculoskeletal tissues in the context of exercise, immobilisation, ageing and injury

identify musculoskeletal structures using a range of methods and detail their function in the context of human movement, exercise and injury

apply knowledge of muscle actions and musculoskeletal synergies to conduct basic musculoskeletal movement and postural analyses
