Advances further the student understanding of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment, and introduces the concept of integration of underlying principles into osteopathic health care. Building on the skills and understanding gained in Osteopathic I & II students will develop more advanced soft tissue/myofascial skills including Muscle Energy Technique and Fascial Release of musculoskeletal diagnosis and management of different regions of the body.
Topic 1: Patient evaluation protocols, principles of clinical reasoning
Topic 2: Principles of muscle energy and spinal motion. Intersegmental evaluation of the thoracic spine
Topic 3: Treatment of thoracic articular dysfunctions using muscle energy techniques (MET)
Topic 4: Rib cage assessment & treatment of ribs 1 & 2 using MET
Topic 5: Treatment of Ribs 3-10 using osteopathic techniques
Topic 6: Neurophysiology of pain. Assessment & treatment of rib respiratory dysfunctions
Topic 7: Intersegmental evaluation of lumbar spine
Topic 8: Treatment of lumbar articular dysfunction using MET
Topic 9: Intersegmental assessment and neurological testing of cervical spine
Topic 10: Treatment of cervical articular dysfunction MET
Topic 11: Chronic pain syndromes
