Enables allied health students to engage with and contribute to the assessment, differential diagnostic and recommendation process for adult and child clients. Students learn to draw on profession specific and inter-professional skills to deal with a variety of health issues and problems.
- Overview of investigation processes (observation, case history collection, behaviour sampling, documentation).
- Review of learning to date and literature regarding principles related to assessment, interpretation, intervention and recommendations.
Supervised clinical practice of:
- Assessment of clients over several weeks.
- Analysis and interpretation of findings from client assessments.
- Case presentation of findings on client assessments to clinical educators and student group and discussion of plans for clients.
- Writing diagnostic reports on clients.
- Providing informative counselling regarding findings pertaining to clinical data to clients and families.
- Self-evaluation of clinical performance during a mid-placement formative assessment (e.g. COMPASS for Speech Pathology students or DOCPS assessments for podiatry).
- Second cycle of conducting assessments on clients and reporting to clients on findings of assessment and recommendations during clinic sessions.
- Reflection on learning in relation to range indicators, related disorders, scope of practice broadly for adults and children.
- Reflection on issues in investigation, documentation, analysis, interpretation and planning evidence based practices, as well as engaging with the supervision and feedback process.
