Unit description

Develops practical skills in exercise and sport assessment in alignment with the scope of practice of an Accredited Exercise Scientist. Students learn to conduct comprehensive initial client consultations to determine individual client needs. Students will design, deliver and interpret a range of exercise and sport assessments during laboratory classes to assess fitness qualities. The unit has a strong focus on effective practitioner-client communication to develop rapport with a client, to provide clear instructions and to create a positive atmosphere during exercise and sport assessment, and to communicate results in a safe and effective manner.

1. Initial client consultation
2. Cardiorespiratory endurance assessment
3. Strength and power assessment
4. Speed and agility assessment
5. VO2max and lactate threshold assessment
6. Exercise assessment for specific populations and sports

 

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1perform a comprehensive initial client consultation that is inclusive to the needs of the individual
2design appropriate exercise and sport assessment protocols and evaluate their risks for healthy individuals
3deliver safe and effective sport and exercise assessments suitable for healthy individuals
4interpret exercise and sport assessment results and communicate those results to a client

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. perform a comprehensive initial client consultation that is inclusive to the needs of the individual
  2. design appropriate exercise and sport assessment protocols and evaluate their risks for healthy individuals
  3. deliver safe and effective sport and exercise assessments suitable for healthy individuals
  4. interpret exercise and sport assessment results and communicate those results to a client
