Unit description
Examines considerations for, and responses and adaptations to, training for performance. Students will critically reflect upon the scientific literature underpinning training related responses, adaptation, and coaching principles. Students will expand knowledge and skills to develop appropriate multifaceted training interventions (integrating exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, motor control and skill acquisition) to match intended training goals in sports science, training, and coaching contexts.
Unit content
- Acute responses and chronic training adaptations for performance
- Effects of fatigue on recovery, adaptation and performance
- Population related (gender, chronological age, training age, social and physical environmental background etc) differences in training adaptations and performance
- Novel techniques in training and their influence on physiological and physical adaptation and performance
- Applied sports training and coaching in action
- Student led training plans
