Unit description

Develops theoretical and practical skills for the assessment of functional capacity, and exercise programming and delivery appropriate for clients with chronic metabolic diseases such as overweight/obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus (impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance, gestational, Type 1 and Type 2) and renal disease.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1apply and adapt critical clinical thinking and clinical reasoning to provide timely identification of, and response(s) to, clinical safety risks for exercise for individuals with metabolic and renal conditions
2critically analyse and integrate the knowledge of metabolic and renal disease into the design of appropriate client health and fitness assessments
3autonomously design and deliver safe, effective and evidence-based clinical exercise interventions for individuals with metabolic and renal conditions

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
